YWCA fall open house The YWCA White Plains and Central Westchester will host an open house on Saturday, Sept. 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is an opportunity for the community to get more information on fitness, personal training and aquatics programs and services offered at the YWCA. Visitors can enter a raffle drawing for prizes or register that day for classes. Specials on the day of the YWCA Open House include a one month free when signing up for the All-Access Annual Fitness Membership, Annual Fitness Center Only Membership, and/or Annual Aquatics Membership. Also, if you register for the Annual Fitness Membership before Oct. 31, you will receive $75 off. The fall session starts Sept. 13 and there are a great array of classes to choose from for participants of all ages. Information on early education programs, gymnastics, parent/child, swimming, soccer and ballet classes will be available. Helping Haiti at Playland Nine months to the day, conditions for the victims of the earthquake in Haiti remain bleak. On Sunday, Sept. 12, join with hundreds of Westchester families at Playland Amusement Park in Rye from noon to 3 p.m. for a family fun day and fundraiser to help those in need. Sponsored by the AFYA Foundation the event features unlimited rides, miniature golf, and lunch, with tickets ranging from $50 for children 12 and under, $75 for children 12-16, and $100 for adults, with higher sponsorship levels offered. The AFYA Foundation seeks to spread “Good Health through Giving” by obtaining and shipping vital supplies to support medical and surgical programs, primarily in Africa and now in Haiti. In addition to raising money at the Family Day at Playland, collection bins will be placed at the park entrance for gently used sports equipment (jump ropes, kick balls, soccer balls, kids’ sneakers, cleats, socks and jerseys) to provide much needed recreation and distraction for chilkdren whose parents are receiving care in AFYA’s physical therapy centers in Haiti. HPCW to celebrate 18th anniversary Hospice & Palliative Care of Westchester’s (HPCW) Ninth Annual Gala Cocktail Reception, “In Celebration,” will take place at Westchester Country Club, Rye, on Tuesday, Sept. 14, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. HPCW will honor Michele and Terry Geller, D.D.S., of Hastings-on-Hudson; William A. . Fall classes at New Rochelle YMCA The fall class session at the New Rochelle YMCA begins Monday, Sept. 13. Classes are offered in Aquatics, Fitness and Youth Sports. Registration for the classes began on Aug. 9. Fall swim classes are offered for all ages beginning with parent and child programs 6 months and up. Classes are held during the week and on Saturdays. Adult and teen swim lessons are offered at several times during the week. The New Rochelle YMCA Sailfish Swim team begins this September. . “Under the Tuscan Sun” gala to benefit Greenwich Hospital The region that gave birth to the Italian Renaissance provides the inspiration for the 15th annual Gala for Greenwich Hospital “Under the Tuscan Sun” set for Saturday, Oct. 23, at the Greenwich Country Club to benefit the Emergency Department. Proceeds from the gala benefit Greenwich Hospital’s Emergency Department (ED), which handles more than 43,000 visits from area residents each year. Open round-the-clock, the advanced facility assists adult and pediatric patients with urgent and non-urgent needs. Sixty percent of the hospital’s admissions originate from the ED; New Yorkers account for 40 percent of the visits. Gala tickets are available at various levels: $2,500 (Vice Chair), $1,500 (Benefactor), $1,000 (Patron) and $500 (Friend). Tables of 10 are available for Vice Chair, Benefactor and Patron levels.
